Once again, we’re going to walk through the streets of Barcelona and, on this occasion, we have chosen a coastal neighborhood for our Living in Diagonal Mar series.
In our second chapter, in which we walk through the best neighborhoods to live in Barcelona, we have thought that a neighborhood like Diagonal Mar, is a magnificent option for August.
We’re going to see how the real estate market is and walk its streets until we reach the beach.
Unlike the previous walk, Living in Poblenou, this time we are going to walk through the most recent neighborhood of Barcelona and, in reality, it is a neighborhood that is in the process of formation more than any other.
Diagonal Mar is one of the best neighborhoods to live in, as long as you can afford it.
I explain with data.
The price per square meter in Diagonal Mar is 25% higher than in the rest of the city. Being these data non-definitive and fluctuating according to the market.
Anyway, if money is not a problem, Diagonal Mar is one of the best neighborhoods to live in Barcelona.
At Diagonal Mar there are some of the most spectacular flats in the city, most of them totally new and with breathtaking views.
We got out of the metro at the Metro Selva de Mar stop and the first thing we noticed was an intense sweltering heat, so we were glad we brought a bottle of water, walking shoes and our Audrey Hepburn-style sunglasses, towel and swimsuit on.With this gear and money in your pocket no one can stop us.
We could have gotten off at the Diagonal Mar stop, but a little bird told me that there is a place nearby that I can’t miss, so I walk down the avenue and in the right side I see what I was looking for.
I’m surprised because I just got out of the subway and I’m already desperate to get in the shade.
Diagonal Mar park is one of those municipal facilities that exudes design everywhere.
Actually, and that is something that I was completely unaware of and that I have discovered as I write and document myself, it is the second largest park in the city of Barcelona.
Frankly, now that I am sitting here drinking water and looking around, I understand why it is one of the most expensive areas of the city, everything here is new, everything is designed and projected from a spacious and respectful perspective with people.
It is true that I have given up my desire to find a store for a long time. In this neighbourhood, life and history have yet to be built.
I’m not surprised, I had already been warned. In Diagonal Mar there are no traditional nano shops! The only thing you will see is people leaving the mall.
Indeed, passing in front of the Diagonal Mar Shopping Center I see a lot of people leaving with shopping bags.
Three people catch my attention, two girls who go with a plainclothes bodyguard loaded with bags of drunkin and primaks. They, shouting, call each other Tata Tala and Tita Elena, but nothing they say is understood. They will surely be tourists who have come to the city in search of the best bargains.
Now that I’ve walked through the Diagonal Mar park and headed for the coast, I’m feeling hungry.
There are people for whom the heat takes away their hunger, but a very curious thing happens to me, the heat makes me hungry for fried dirty dishes.
So I follow my instinct and head to the beach, hoping to find a place that has a menu based on fried calamari and the like. And a good toasty beer, which is my new hobby and that I’m not going to skip for any reason.
It seems that my instinct has failed me, there isn’t a lot of fats on this menu. I’m at the Bambú Beach Club and their menu is a bit more exotic, but everything looks very good.
I decide on a mix between Asia and Spain and order some bravas, some salty prawns from Huelva, some Thai Mussels and some Vegetable Gyozas with soy sauce and miso.
– It will be a lot? – I ask the waiter
– I think you can handle everything! He tells me looking at my belly
Before I leave, I ask the waiter to put me a good summer cocktail in a large recyclable cardboard glass, I’m going to the arena.
It’s August, it’s 34 degrees in the shade and I don’t feel like anticipating my next stop.
Right now I only have one thing clear, I am in front of the beach and before the digestion processes start, I pay the bill and go to the beach in front.
The Levante beach in the Diagonal Mar neighborhood is one of those infinite beaches that has all the services:
I lie on the beach, I listen to the noise of the sea and the murmur of the people.
How nice it is to live in Barcelona and be able to enjoy one of the best cities in the world.
