I feel like wandering the streets of Barcelona again and this time I’m going to take a walk through a very interesting neighbourhood, all to see what it would be Living in La Verneda y la Pau.
I do it because I like to get an idea of what the neighborhoods around me are like, observe its people, go into traditional shops and see how the neighborhood has evolved to where it is now.
The neighborhood of La Verneda y la Pau is very new, it originated in the 50s of the past century, and it was and is the result of a great demand for housing that was generated to provide coverage for the massive number of immigrants who came from other parts of Spain to Barcelona with the intention of improving their living conditions.
It is very interesting to see old images of the neighborhood, still under construction, on the Barcelona City Council website.
A few years later, the 17-story Piramidón building made history and, curiously, the name Verneda refers to one of the trees that grows on the banks of rivers, the verns, also known as alders.
The m² average price of housing in the La Verneda y la Pau neighborhood is around 2,500 euros and registers, as usual, a quiet but constant rise over the years.
In fact this neighborhood is distinguished by its privileged situation in terms of its infrastructure and its communications make this neighborhood a very successful place to go to live, although if you do, you will share space with the industry, which is very present in this neighborhood.
In La Verneda y la Pau is made up mostly of flats of various sizes and for all tastes, so take a look around our search engine to see if we currently have any good offers.
Now that I have the bases well defined, I am on my way to an emblematic place and to do so I go to the 16th floor of the Piramidón.
The Piramidón building located in the La Verneda and La Pau neighborhood is home to the area’s contemporary art center, but I have gone up to see the neighborhood from above.
Depending on the day, from there we can see the Garraf and Mataró coasts, but above all, we can see the neighborhood from a bird’s eye view.
The view is really impressive and we can get an idea of the huge number of people who live here.
In the purest building style of the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, it is a neighborhood with a lot of projection, with some fairly new buildings and others that have been rehabilitated to keep up to date.
Now that I have controlled the neighborhood from heaven, it is time to go down to the streets and meet the local people.
I’m hungry and, despite the fact that the neighborhood has some high-end culinary offerings, I’m looking for a more “real” experience.
So I walk through the streets until I find what I’m looking for.
La Verneda Bar Restaurant, a timeless classic – so classic that they don’t have a website or anything.
Here I sit and chat a bit with the guy at the bar, a man who tells me things about the neighborhood and its people. He asks me what I’m doing while I’m writing the review.
He realizes that it’s a good opportunity for his bar, restaurant.
So without noticing me, he goes inside and orders my food-it’s a surprise, friend, and don’t worry, this is my responsibility.
I am impressed, I have been walking around Barcelona for a long time and doing this series and no one had reacted in such a proactive way.
This was the offer:
I thank him and eat a bravas, a potato and ham omelette on top, and an octopus tapa.
The truth is that I go blind to eat.
At the end of the meal we chatted some more and shook hands.
I had planned to visit another place but the food has left me ready for sentence.
So with my eyes rolled back I go home until next time.
